Para hacer lugar para nueva música tuve que borrar las primeras tres tandas de música de la mi radio.

Atenti, que se viene un batch nuevo muy especial...

Se va Octubre, y con él se va el Disco de Mes.
El último tema de este álbum que subo a la radio se llama "Tee" y es una de las varias baladas acústicas que Bart Davenport tiene en su arsenal, seleccioné esta en particular porque va más con la fase folky por la que iremos transitando (si alguien me acompaña :) ) con las actualizaciones musicales (Pa’ que no desentone, vio?).

¿Cuál será el disco del mes de Noviembre? Sorpresa!!! (mentira, todavía no lo pensé :P)

¿Qué se puede decir de esta joyita de disco?
Veamos: Bart Davenport, ex-The Loved Ones y The Kinetics, amante del rock californiano y las melodías amables. Tomando como referencia a sus favoritos (Love, Paul McCartney y Gil Scott Heron) crea canciones perfectas que por momentos igualan o mejoran el material en el que se basan.
Este es su segundo álbum (el primero, editado en 2002 en un pequeño sello independiente, se llama solamente "Bart Davenport"); cada canción con un sabor diferente, desde una Bossa al Country-Folk, de una balada acústica al psych-pop del cover The Free Design "My Brother Woody", todas arregladas magistralmente a medida (como diría alguna frase cursi "solo lo que la canción pide" :) ).
Para grabar este disco se junto con unos "amiguitos": miembros de Call And Response, Dave Gleason's Wasted Days, los Moore Brothers, de Free Design y Cake, entre otros.
Para los que conocen a Josh Rouse y pudieron escuchar su último disco "1972" este disco les sonara similar en tono y climas (los dos chorrean devoción por el sonido de radio AM setentero y el modo "analógico" de grabación), aunque Game Preserve lo precede por algunos meses.

Acá estamos de nuevo, agregándole mas música al RadioBlog, y esta ya es la quinta entrega...
Como dije en uno de mis primeros post (allá por Agosto), una forma interesante de conocer a una persona es a través de la música que escucha, y considerando que este no es un blog/diario íntimo no les queda muchas alternativas :).
Hasta acá mayormente fui subiendo el lado mas popy y pegajoso del rock, ahora se viene el lado mas alt-country/folk melancólico (salvo excepciones, obviamente) que es otro de los subgéneros que ando explorando desde hace unos años.

Y los elegidos sonnnnn:

- The Autumn Defense "The Sun In California": Folk otoñal del grupo del bajista de siempre de Wilco (único miembro original superviviente junto a Tweedy y ex-Uncle Tupelo) John Stirratt y Pat Sansone (flamante integrante de Wilco). Del álbum Circles del 2003.

- Bart Davenport "When You're Sad": Otra perlita del Disco Del Mes. Rock y folk casi perfecto con claras influencias del sonido AOR (Album Oriented Rock) estadounidense. De su segundo disco Game Preserve del 2003.

- The Court & Spark "National Lights": Americana, roots, twangy, como quiera llamarlo... Folk-rock con una vuelta interesante. Buena música del disco Bless You del 2001.

- The Handsome Family "Far From Any Road": Seguimos con la onda Americana, pero este dúo (son marido y mujer) tiene una predilección por las "murder ballads", canciones trágicas, fantasmas y lagos brumosos. Del album Singing Bones, 2003.

Hace un tiempo, boludeando por blogs ajenos, encontre un post muy intersante...

Cierro este tema con otra definición que leí por ahí, la cual es bastante simple pero cierta:

Definición de Power Pop

Lo prometido es deuda, acá hay una definición bastante ajustada del género musical denominado Power Pop. (Como verán esta en inglés, no encontré una buena definición en español y esta es muy larga como para traducirla, por ahí en un futuro...)

"Power pop is a musical genre that draws its inspiration from 1960s British and American pop music. Lyrically, power-pop songs mostly confine themselves to the eternal subject of romantic love, and musically the style is characterized by strong melodies, prominent guitars, and formal concision, with solos being kept to a minimum.

The term seems to have been coined in an interview with Pete Townshend of The Who in the mid-1960s. However, the Everly Brothers were playing music that can be called power pop as early as 1965; their "I'll See Your Light" displays jangling guitars and an oblique harmonic approach that built upon the innovations of The Beatles and The Byrds. And while The Beatles, The Byrds and The Who are often cited as the progenitors of power pop, these groups never confined themselves to the strict elements of the style.
The groups who arose in the wake of the Beatles' success are also important in the evolution of the style--the Left Banke, The Beau Brummels, The Knickerbockers and The Zombies.

Modern power pop begins in the late '60s with the first recordings of the Flamin' Groovies and Badfinger. In the early '70s the form became codified through the work of The Raspberries, Big Star, Blue Ash, Dwight Twilley and Todd Rundgren. The Flamin' Groovies, whose 1969 LP Supersnazz had contained both power pop in embryo and stylized reworkings of '50s rock and roll, turned decisively to the style in 1976 with songs like "Shake Some Action" and "You Tore Me Down." Nick Lowe recorded many songs in the power-pop vein, including the 1979 hit single "Cruel to Be Kind."

In the 1980s and 1990s power pop continued to be a viable, though somewhat uncommercial genre, as artists such as Marshall Crenshaw (whose first two albums are considered classics of the genre), Matthew Sweet. Teenage Fanclub, Material Issue, The Posies and Jellyfish drew inspiration from Big Star, the Beatles, and glam rock groups of the early 1970s like T. Rex and Sweet. Power pop eventually broke into the mainstream more than ever before with the success of Weezer in the mid-'90s. Certain 1990s acts not associated with the genre, like Nirvana and Oasis, bore definite signs of its influence, which continues today with acts like Jet and The Vines. Llegó el cuarto update musical para mi Radio.Blog.

Aunque dije que no quería hacer especiales temáticos me salió sin querer :) . Esta tanda es casi totalmente dedicada al power-pop, genero musical al que le dedicaré un próximo posteo.
